Windows
3.1x is a graphical user interface and a part of the Microsoft Windows
software family. Several editions were released between 1992 and 1994,
succeeding Windows 3.0. This family of Windows can run in either
Standard or 386 Enhanced memory modes. The exception is Windows for
Workgroups 3.11, which can only officially run in 386 Enhanced mode.

This is the most stable release of the 16-bit windows operating system prior to Windows 95
It is an excellent choice for 286-486 computers
It is NOT recommended for computers with large hard drives
Requirements
- MS-DOS 3.1 or later
- IBM compatible 80286 or higher (386 recommended)
- 640K Conventional memory
- 256K extended memory (XMS v 2.0 or higher)
- 1024K extended memory recommended on 80286
- 2048K extended memory recommended on 80386
- 5.25-inch (high density) or 3.5-inch floppy drive
- Fixed drive with 6 megabytes free (10 megabytes recommended)
- EGA, VGA, SVGA, XGA, 8514/A, or Hercules video card or 100% compatible card, and monitor
- Mouse recommended
- A bunch of floppy disks!
